Picardy regional development agency

A transit zone for European trade, the Picardy region in the North of France, bordering the English Channel, is situated at the heart of a market made up of 493 million consumers.
Located at the center of the Paris-London-Brussels triangle (all three cities can be reached in one hour), the Picardy region is a thoroughfare for European transport traffic that is linked to the major European capital cities thanks to an efficient transport network (Beauvais and Roissy-Charles de Gaulle international airports).
Existing and planned motorway networks connect the region to the major cities in Europe: commercial and industrial exchanges are favored by the transit of major flows of goods through the region.
The Picardy region is situated close to Paris, at the crossroads between the major London-Milan and Amsterdam-Paris-Madrid axes, and lies at the heart of one of Europe’s most dynamic centers of economic activity. An increasing number of European and international groups are choosing to set up their business activity in the Picardy region. Year after year, the region enhances its European dimension and its global ambitions. Exports are constantly increasing.
Companies in the mechanical (including metal working), plastics and agro-food sectors form the main pillars of economical development in the region. They offer networks of complimentary expertise. These activities are a traditional part of the economic landscape of the region that have successfully evolved and developed and are now ranked highly on a domestic, European and international level.
The Picardy region also offers advantages in terms of human resources. The population is traditionally blue collar, but benefits from training opportunities (initial and professional) which reflect both the local tradition of industry but also other leading edge sectors: technologies, services, telecommunications, international trade… Qualification levels are constantly improving.
Finally, the region has two official global clusters in partnership with the Champagne-Ardenne region: the “Industries and agro-resources” cluster dedicated to the agro-food industry, and which centers its development around new markets based on the optimal use of all plant components for industrial, innovative and competitive purposes; the “I-TRANS” cluster dedicated to the transport industry, which aims to become Europe’s leading globally recognized cluster for the design, construction and competitive operating and maintenance of railway equipment and systems.
In 2006, foreign investment in the Picardy region enabled 1 340 jobs to be created.
