U.S.-based First Solar, Inc., world leader in solar panel production, and EDF Energies Nouvelles, have announced the creation of a factory at Ecoparc in Blanquefort (Gironde), the largest of its kind in France.

The project is estimated to be worth €100 million and will lead to the hiring of 380 employees.

Construction will start in September 2010 and production will begin in 2012, reaching full capacity with more than 100 megawatts per year.

Regional and local support will amount to €32 million, with a particular focus on real estate investments.

The site will also include the only solar panel recycling facility in France.
