> Mott MacDonald opens office in France

Mott MacDonald Group, one of the UK’s most successful engineering consultancies, has opened its first office in France with a view to providing a more local service to clients headquarted there, as well as multinational clients operating in the country.

Mott MacDonald Group is a British management, engineering and development consultancy formed through a merger in 1989 of two historic engineering consultancies, Mott, Hay & Anderson and Sir M. MacDonald & Partners. It delivers solutions for public- and private-sector clients worldwide across a broad range of markets, including construction, transport, energy, water, environment, health, education, industry, oil and gas, communications and international development. It is one of the world’s largest companies in its sector with over 14,000 employees and a presence in more than 140 countries.

In order to diversify its activities in a new market, boost its presence in Europe, get closer to its current clients and create stronger ties with its international subsidiaries, Mott MacDonald Group opened a new office in Paris in June 2010, where the company now employs nine people. “France is very attractive to Mott MacDonald given its buoyant market, especially for public private partnerships and renewable energy, the strengths of French multinationals that we work with throughout the world and the country’s close ties to French-speaking countries and Africa” explains Mr. Philippe Rapin, Mott MacDonald’s France Country Representative.

Thanks to the help of the Invest in France Agency UK and Ireland (IFA UKI) and its contacts with the Paris Region Economic Development Agency, Mott MacDonald Group received useful information about hiring and business setup costs. The IFA UKI also helped them to obtain advice about the legal and tax environment and to find premises for their business.

“The support we have had from the IFA UKI and the Paris Region Economic Development Agency has been tremendous. They have provided very effective support to help us with the move to Paris, making the whole process easier and quicker than we anticipated. They provided us with answers to all the usual queries that are raised before starting up in a foreign country and were available to answer all our questions to prepare our business case. And all the services were free!” adds Mr. Rapin.

“We can say with confidence that this is just the beginning of a success story for Mott MacDonald in France, where public-private partnership opportunities are on the rise. There are also many leading building and construction companies in France whom Mott MacDonald can provide with the services they require.”
