> The Invest in France Agency helps SgurrEnergy Ltd. to expand in France

In order to increase and enhance its renewable energy capability, SgurrEnergy has moved premises in France, accelerating plans to expand its innovative services and products.

SgurrEnergy Ltd., part of the Wood Group, was founded in 2002 in Glasgow by experts in the fields of renewable energy provision, energy conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy engineering solutions. With six offices worldwide and more than 100 energy consultants providing services in over 30 countries, SgurrEnergy is one of UK’s leading technical advisory engineering consultancies specializing in renewable energy. SgurrEnergy advises companies in assessing, developing, designing and managing their renewable energy projects and offers expertise in wind- and hydro-based energy technologies, as well as in solar, biomass and wave power technology.

After opening a representation office in France in 2009 to develop its business, SgurrEnergy has now moved into larger offices in central Paris. The Invest in France Agency UK and Ireland (IFA UKI) supported SgurrEnergy by providing tailored information on the French legal environment and helping to initiate the recruitment process. The IFA UKI also supported the company as it set up in Ile-de-France (Paris region).

France’s “Green New Deal”, following the conclusion of the “Grenelle” environmental round table talks in 2007, has opened the way to develop environmentally friendly buildings, renewable energies, green technologies and sustainable transport in the country. For example, 21% of France’s economic stimulus plan has been spent on promoting “green growth”, a “sustainable development” tax credit has been introduced to support green businesses, while a dozen innovative clusters dedicated to green technologies have also been set up.

The manager of SgurrEnergy’s French office, Arnaud Bertrand, commented “SgurrEnergy continues to invest in the French renewables market with this office move supported by the Invest in France Agency. This expansion will support the growing number of French project developers, investors and banks who are eager to benefit from SgurrEnergy’s extensive international experience in both onshore and offshore wind and solar photovoltaic projects.”

“SgurrEnergy Ltd. is a perfect illustration of the efforts made by the French government to help companies in the renewable energy sector to invest in France. France offers numerous investment opportunities for foreign companies in the green sector, stemming from the measures which have been taken by the government since the “Grenelle” environment round table talks in 2007 to encourage sustainable economic development.”
