> French government approves six new innovation clusters in environmental technologies
Six new innovation clusters were approved by the Interministerial Committees for Regional Development and Growth (CIADT) on May 11, 2010, where the spotlight fell on environmental technologies, a leading driver of future sustainable growth.

The six new clusters are:
  • "Eau" (a world-class candidate water cycle quality management cluster in the regions of Languedoc-Roussillon, Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur and Midi-Pyrénées),
  • "Hydreos" (Water cycle quality management; Alsace-Lorraine),
  • "Dream - Eaux et milieux" (Water and environment; Centre),
  • "Avenia - Gestion du sous-sol, capture et stockage du CO2, géothermie" (Geosciences for energy and environment; Aquitaine),
  • "Team2 - Valorisation des déchets" (Recycling construction/plastic waste, Green products; Nord-Pas-de-Calais)
  •  And “Energivie - Bâtiment durable et efficacité énergétique" (Sustainable construction; Alsace)
Six other clusters (out of the 71 which already exist in France) have lost their accredited status: MTA (Hybrid & Electric Vehicles, located at the Futuroscope site in Poitou-Charentes), Innoviandes (Auvergne), Child Welfare (Cholet, Pays-de-la-Loire), Sporaltec (Rhône-Alpes), Génie Civil Ecoconstruction (Pays-de-la-Loire) and Prod'innov (Aquitaine).

Alternative solutions will be proposed for the companies who are members of these six clusters, while some may be merged with other company groupings.

A new evaluation of the clusters is due to take place in 2012, as the second phase of the cluster policy has been extended for one year.

Launched in Autumn 2005, France’s innovation clusters seek to build collaborative networks from various companies of different sizes, educational institutes and public- and private-sector research centers.
