Sorin Group, the Italian world leader in the development of medical technologies for cardiac surgery, will make its site in Clamart, just outside Paris, a global treatment center for cardiac rhythm management disorders (CRM).
The site was officially opened on Thursday, June 10, 2010 and brings together 500 personnel. A further 150 will join them by 2013.
"French medical personnel are renowned in their field and we have built close ties with French university hospitals. France is also now one of the countries offering the most generous incentives for R&D", commented Andre-Michel Ballester, Sorin’s CEO.
In response to increased competition (especially from the world market leader, the US-based Medtronic) Sorin has stepped up its research efforts. The R&D budget of the CRM division increased by 20% in 2009 to €25 million. Sorin researchers can already take credit for the world's smallest pacemaker and are continuing to work on miniaturization. Innovative projects involving increasingly complex technology are anticipated for 2011.
Sorin Group, headquartered in Milan, posted a turnover of €689 million in 2009, up 5.2%. The Italian group is the leader in the French market for pacemaker sales and number three in Europe. Seventy-five percent of its output is produced for export.
